Umberto Peroni

Umberto Peroni was born in Pelago in 1948 and started his activity in the art world in 1964 at the Printing House “Il Bisonte”, a protagonist of Italian and European culture in the prints sector. Here Peroni took its first steps as a "ragazzo di bottega”, alongside experienced professionals and printers and, in addition to learning the secrets of the art of printing, had the chance to know the most important Italian artists like: Carlo Carra, Ardengo Soffici, Gino Severini, Ernesto Treccani Fernando Farulli he worked with to create art editions. After a stay of a few years, Peroni decided in 1968 - along with a friend printer - to give life to a new printing house that wants to engage young and talented artists like Franco Mulas, Fabio De Poli, Luca Alinari and at the same time wanted to develop and innovate the printing art with a special focus on lithography and engraving. In 1974 began a new season of activities with the publisher Cantini that, from a period of relationship and collaboration with important artists, wanted to set up another printing house in Florence - in addition to already existing in Populonia (Leghorn) - with specialization for etching and lithography, and where to work with new and more significant artists. Peroni became the head of the Printing House Cantini and had the opportunity to collaborate with artists such as Pietro Annigoni, Alain Bonnefoit, Primo Conti, Luigi Guerricchio, Antonio Bueno, Renato Borsato, Michele Cascella, Tono Zancanaro, Emilio Greco, Luciano Guarnieri, Virgilio Guidi. Among the various editions we could mention the "Life of Cola di Rienzo" with engravings by Fernando Farulli, "Algerie / Algerienne" by the artist Houamel Abdelkader, "Homage to Severini" with a soft-ground etching by Primo Conti, "The days of week "by Aldo Patocchi, Swiss wood engraver, " The 4 Seasons of Vivaldi "with 12 etchings by Pietro Annigoni. Peroni in 1990 decided to launch its own exclusive activity and opened his own printing house - Atelier Torchio Antico - in the countryside around Florence. Here continues his work involving friends and artists such as Giuliano Giuggioli, Lorenzo Lazzeri, Adorno Bonciani, Simone Bortolotti, Salvatore Magazzini, Vairo Mongatti Sergio Nardoni, Antonio Possenti, Guido Pinzani, Paolo Sarti, Mario Fallani, Roberto Masi, Alessandro Nocentini, Patrizio Gervasoni, Alain Bonnefoit, Alessandro Reggioli, Fabrizio Pizzanelli and Fabio Calvetti.
